Chevrolet builds its 1-millionth car. Establishes first export assembly plant in Denmark.
1929
25,000 Chevrolet vehicles have been built-to-date by GM South Africa.
1930
Chevrolet produces its 7 millionth vehicle. Chevrolet is the first to introduce articulated brake shoes, giving more positive braking action.
1933
The 9 millionth Chevrolet is built. New models include more Chevrolet "firsts", including vacuum spark control, manifold heat control, and no-draft ventilation.
1934
Chevrolet introduces independent front suspension.
1938
The British Army in Egypt orders 500 Chevrolets for use in WWII. The vehicles came with special desert equipment, for which the famous “camel’s foot” tires were later developed.
1940
Chevrolet receives its first order from the U.S. War Department for forging and machining 75-mm shells.
1941
Concealed running boards introduced. The 17 millionth Chevrolet is produced.
1942
Civilian car production ceases for duration of World War II. Chevrolet is one of the most important single suppliers of the war effort.

Powerglide is the first automatic transmission in the low-price field.

Corvette is introduced, featuring industry's first production fiberglass body.

GM produces its 50-millionth car: a 1955 Chevrolet Bel Air Sport Coupe.

100-millionth Chevrolet is built (1979 Monza).

Corvette introduces Bosch ABS II anti-lock brakes.

Corvette shatters three world speed and endurance world records.
1991
Chevrolet makes anti-lock brakes standard on more 1992 car and truck models than any other manufacturer. The all new 1992 Chevrolet Caprice is launched.
1995
Chevrolet Lumina is introduced.
1996
Chevrolet introduces the Vortec engine.
2003
After nearly 20 years, the Chevrolet brand is re-introduced into South Africa with the Spark, Aveo, Vivant and Lumina models.
2004
The all new Chevrolet Caprice is launched.
2007
The 2010 Chevrolet Volt concept, the first extended range electric vehicle, is revealed at the North American International Auto Show.
2008
The Chevrolet Tahoe 2-mode hybrid is delivered to the Dubai Roads & Traffic Authority (RTA). The 2009 Corvette ZR1, one of the world’s fastest production cars and record-setter at the famed Nürburgring track, and the 2009 Traverse crossover are launched.
2009
The Chevrolet Cruze was successfully launched in South Africa, and is a finalist in the Car of the Year 2010 competition.
