GM South Africa as Manufacturer, warrants each new motor vehicle, including all equipment and accessories as approved by GM South Africa, thereon (except tyres, batteries and excluded items as listed below), to be free from defects in material and workmanship under normal use and service. The Manufacturer's obligation under this warranty is limited to repairing or replacing at its options, any part or parts thereof which shall within five (5) years or 120 000km from date of sale of such vehicle to the original retail purchaser, be returned to an authorised Dealer of GM South Africa, at such Dealer's place of business, and which examination shall disclose to the Manufacturer`s satisfaction to have been thus defective. The repair or replacement of defective parts under this warranty will be made by such Dealer without charge for parts and if made at such Dealer's place of business, without charge for labour.
The provisions of this warranty shall not apply to any motor vehicle which has not been serviced in accordance with the Maintenance Schedule by an authorised GM South Africa, or has been subjected to misuse, negligence or accident, or which has been used for racing or rallying, or which shall have been repaired outside of the GM South Africa Dealer organisation, or altered in any way so as, in the judgement of the Manufacturer, to affect adversely its performance and reliability, nor to normal maintenance services (such as engine tune-up, fuel system cleaning and wheel, brakes and clutch adjustments) and the replacement of service items (such as spark plugs, filters and brake and clutch lining), made in connection with such services, nor to normal deterioration of soft trim and apprearance items due to wear and exposure.
This warranty expressely excludes liability for consequential damages caused by latent defect and is in lieu of any other warranties, expressed or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose, and of any other obligations or liability on the part of the Manufacturer. GM South Africa neither assumes nor authorises any other person to assume for it any other liability in connection with such motor vehicle.
If the vehicle is resold by an authorised GM Dealer, the balance of this warranty is transferable to the new owner provided the transaction takes place within five (5) years or 120 000km of the date of sale to the original owner. The Balance of New Vehicle Warranty Transfer to the Second or Third Owner card must be completed and received by GM South Africa.
ADDITIONAL WARRANTY EXCLUSIONS AFTER 12 MONTHS
WHAT IS COVERED
This warranty covers any repairs needed to correct defects in material or workmanship. Your GM South Africa Dealer will carry out the repairs or adjustments using new approved parts.
This warranty is for vehicles registered and normally operated in the republic of South Africa and adjacent territories.
This warranty is valid for a period of five (5) years or 120 000km, whichever occurs first.
Commencement of warranty:
The warranty period begins on the date of sale of the vehicle to the original retail purchaser.
Warranty repairs (parts and labour) will be made at no charge. A reasonable time must be allowed after taking the vehicle to the dealer.
The factory fitted air-conditioning and immobiliser/alarm systems are the only GM approved systems. WHAT IS NOT COVERED
Tyres are not warranted
Damage due to accidents, misuse or alterations:
Accidents or damage from objects striking the vehicle. Misuse of the vehicle such as driving over kerbs, overloading, racing, etc.
Damage from environment:
Airborne fallout (chemicals, tree sap, etc.), salt, hail, windstorm, lightning, etc.
Damage due to lack of maintenance: Lack of proper maintenance as described in the Maintenance Schedules.
Cleaning, polishing, lubricants and filters, engine tune-up and replacing worn brake and clutch linings, are some of the normal maintenance items all vehicles require. See Maintenance Schedules for full details.
Direct and indirect costs:
This warranty does not cover payment for the loss of the use of the vehicle during warranty repairs, ledging bills, car rentals, other travel costs or loss of income.
In view of the abnormal stresses and strains to which tyres are or may be subjected, local tyre manufacturers stipulate that they make no representation whatsoever and give no guarantee against latent or patent defects, or in any other manner whatsoever in respect of products manufactured, sold or supplied by them and all conditions and warranties whatsoever, whether statutory, implied or otherwise are expressely excluded. It is an express condition subject to which persons are licenced to use and vend the patented or branded goods of such manufacturers that a manufacturer will be under no liability, whether in contract or in delict for any injury, loss or damage to any person or property, by or arising out of the use of such goods. A manufacturer is prepared to give the most sympathetic consideration to any complaint as to either manufacture or workmanship and if, in its sole discretion, it comes to the conclusion that such complaint is justified, it will be prepared to deal with the same.
It is for these reasons that GM South Africa must exclude tyres from its warranty.
Security System/Air Conditioner
This warranty also expressely excludes the fitment of any security system, be it alarm or immobiliser, other than the factory approved system. The fitment of any other security system installed as an after market fitment will cancel the warranty on the engine and allied componentry.
The fitment of any air-conditioning unit other than the factory approved system will also render the warranty null and void.
Batteries are excluded from the GM South Africa Warranty as they are warranted by the battery supplier.
Willard Battery Guarantee
Under normal working conditions you do not need to top up your battery with battery water. Use only approved battery water for topping up in the event of water loss. Do not overfill. Keep battery top dry and clean. Keep terminal posts and cable connections clean and tight. The hold down brackets must be securely tightened. Please visit your nearest Willard dealer every 6 months to assist you in the above.
The battery will be replaced on repaired free of charge if it comes defective within twelve months from date of sale. Willard Batteries are guaranteed against failure through defective/faulty workmanship or material. The guarantee does not cover the following:
Where the battery is damaged due to negligence; improper application/use; abuse; overcharging or undercharging due to a faulty electrical system; The fitment of a battery below the capacity specified in our official and published recommendation or below the capacity specified by the vehicle manufacturer as original equipment. Where the battery acid or additives/battery dopes have been used. The manufacturer or its appointed retailers will not be responsible for any consequential damage caused directly or indirectly by any possible failure or defect of the battery.
Modification Any modifications to the vehicle, particularly to increase vehicle performance, will nullify the Vehicle Warranty.
Accident Damage In order to ensure the continued validity of your vehicle's 5 year/120 000km Warranty, accident repairs undertaken during this Warranty Period must be undertaken by an approved GM South Africa Body Repairer.
In the event of an accident, contact must be made with the GM Driver Support Plan (toll-free number) 0800 422 777 or +27 (11) 541 1310. Towing arrangements, should they be necessary, will then be made and the vehicle will be taken to an Approved GM South Africa Body Repairer.
Failure to adhere to this procedure could result in the termination of your new vehicle warranty.
Only General Motors South Africa fully approved parts and accessories must be fitted. General Motors South Africa will not accept any responsibility for repairs carried out by the body repair shop or any other consequential damage caused by these repairs.
In the event of body corrosion occurring during the period of the warranty, or up to a maximum of thirty six (36) months from the original date of sale, the corrosion will be rectified. The cost to rectify the corrosion will be at GM South Africa's discretion and will either be absorbed in full by GM South Africa, or on a participation basis, i.e. 50% or 70% etc. depending on how well the vehicle has been maintained and cared for.
At the discretion of GM South Africa, the repair or replacement of defective parts will be carried out in accordance with accepted commercial standards.
Claims in respect of corrosion will not be entertained under the following circumstances:
If the corrosion is attributable to, or is in respect of external or mechanical damage (including stone damage), industrial pollution or chemical action.
If repairs to, and maintenance of the vehicle have not been done by an authorized GM South Africa dealer.
If, when the corrosion has been detected, there is a delay in lodging the claim, i.e. body panels allowed to corrode to the point where large areas are affected.
If any form of after market rust proofing has been applied, e.g. extended rust warranty contract, or any form of unapproved body paint enhancement/protectors.
It is mandatory that vehicles be thoroughly inspected for signs of corrosion. If corrosion is detected, the area affected must be repaired within thirty (30) days of detection, using only genuine GM South Africa parts/panels. Repairs must be undertaken by an approved GM South Africa Body Repairer.
NOTE: Vehicles will not be covered if the chassis and allied components have been immersed in water during boat launching and beach operation.
Transfer of Rust/Corrosion Warranty is the same for the New Vehicle Warranty.
